The Experience 


Kirsten and I decided to write about an emerging Filipino fast food chain: Chic-Boy (Chicken at Baboy).

  
They have a conveniently located branch in Cubao Shopwise, just two jeep rides away from UP-TMC or 2 blocks away from MRT Cubao. We had an early dinner there after Kirsten's Saturday class.

As usual, we ordered our favorite Cebu lechon liempo. At PhP 99 each meal, it comes with refillable rice (3 cups down for me!). There is also an optional PhP 25 upgrade for bottomless iced tea (which I chose not to avail of... too much iced tea in the office).

 

Their lechon liempo tasted similar to the famous Cebu lechon, only better! It is almost identical to the Balamban-style liempo served by Teng's Grill in Cebu. Chic-Boy's version is the closest Manila replica in terms of taste. It feels nice to get a taste of my mother's hometown (Balamban, Cebu) without having to ride a plane!

Aside from their best-tasting liempo, we also ordered ginisang kangkong with garlic as our side dish. I don't like garlic much, but I love kangkong!

Finally, we had Turones con Leche for dessert. This is indeed a steal for PhP 35 per order (6 pieces). Unlike your usual turon, it comes with a condensed milk dip. Perfect ending for a perfect budget date!

How to get there

1. From MRT Cubao Station, walk towards Farmer's Plaza and to the bridge way connecting to Gateway Mall.
2. Use the Gateway Mall exit near Rustan's and Italiani's. Cross the street get to the Shopwise building.
3. Walk to the side of the Shopwise building which is across SM Cubao. You'll find Chic-Boy near Wendy's.
