The Experience
Kirsten and I celebrated our 9th month in the Ultimate Taste Test 7.0 at Mercato, BGC. It was not as fun as we expected (we just got stuffed!) but there were some interesting items in this event.

An interesting find was Happy Tummy's Spam Musubi. It's similar to sushi except that it had Spam as its filling. It also had a unique variety of sauces: wasabi mayo, caramel, and chocolate!

We tried the wasabi mayo and the caramel sauces. Both were great! We voted for the Spam Musubi as the top dish in the event.

The beef pot pie from Joan & Jane was great. It reminded me of chicken pastel, a dish I used to love (before I got allergic to chicken).

Our most unique find was the Tilapia ice cream!!! Unlike the fish-shaped ice cream sold in Korean stores, this one is made of real Tilapia fish!

Surprisingly, it didn't smell very fishy (though some parts had some fishy feel into it). I later found out that this innovation was an output of a research project by a professor at the Central Luzon State University

Jack Daniel's and Absolut vodka Brownies by Blackinese Brownies had some kick into it!

MSiblings' Inutak was an ube-macapuno mini pie. It looked liked brains, hence the name. Kirsten liked this so I guess it's okay. I'm just not into macapuno.

The petite-sized sample from Choclery Artisan Chocolates made my day! It was at par with Sinfully's (by Shangri-La) chocolate creations.

We also got to taste Merry Moo's Christmas flavors: food for the gods, keso de bola, and peppermint choco. Kirsten liked this so much she voted for it in the best dessert category.

There were also a lot of other (forgettable) stuff in UTT 7.0.

The Wagyu beef tasted like over-marinated pork.

There was this pancit that didn't look good (didn't taste good either). I deleted the picture, can't stand it.

The mushroom-filled tomato tasted okay, but the tuna-filled version gave me the itch!

The tacos tasted like sweet spaghetti in a taco shell.

The Honeyed Beef Bourguignon (beef with mashed potato) was okay but the Shrimp & Uni pasta that came with it was inedible.

The Gelati and Mochilato looked expensive but forgettable. I've tasted way better (and cheaper) mochi ice cream and gelato.

The macaroons tasted like sugar-loaded burnt coconuts.

Plus other so-so foods.

To end our night was the San Miguel Beer pair: Cerveza Negra and Premium Malt. Beer tasted okay as it neutralized our battered taste buds.

For PhP 385 each, we'd rather dine in a more proper place. It was somehow fun but it was just not worth it. We're giving it a '3' for the few great bites we had.
