  • First fun run in Intramuros: a new activity in old Manila!

The Experience

This run is truly a bang for the buck. We got to run in the historical cobblestone streets of Intramuros while funding a part of a medical mission, a fire station's renovation, and a museum rehabilitation for a registration fee of just PhP 350 each. We also became part of history as this was the first fun run held within the walls. Though the polluted Manila air was a concern, running in a unique venue made it a worthwhile experience.
More than the running experience, we had fun when we visited Intramuros museums after the run for free! We just had to present passes that were inserted in the race kit. We saved a total of PhP 325 per person in the museums alone.

Aside from free museum entrance, we also got some usual run freebies: singlet, bottled water, and some candies (Snow Bear Mints and Haw Haw Milk Candy combo!). There were also free items and discounts from Intramuros restaurants. We got a free peach mango pie from Jollibee.

The Intramuros Heritage Run, held last 15 May 2011, is the first ever fun run in Intramuros. Hopefully, it will not be the last. Looking forward to a similar event next year!

How to get there

  1. From LRT Central Terminal (the one near SM Manila), walk to the pedestrian underpass in front of Manila City Hall.
  2. Cross the underpass to reach the Intramuros side.
  3. Ride a green colored pedicab. Ask the driver to bring you to San Ignacio Ruins.
Note: You may use this guide as long as the LRT is open. For the fun run, we opted to take a cab as LRT1 opens at 5am.
