The Experience

We already featured Dong Bei's dumplings in our Binondo Carbo Load post. But Ninyo and I still wanted to visit the actual restaurant to get a taste of the Xiao Long Pao while it is still hot, and to try other dishes as well.

Surprisingly, the place looks like a small carinderia, with monoblock tables and chairs, complete with sexy posters and menu written on cartolinas.

On another table, you can see dumplings being hand-made.

But don't get fooled by the ambiance. This place is where the best dumplings in Binondo are being served. Seriously!

Dong Bei is popular for their Kuchay Dumplings, which they sell at Php 100 for 14 pieces. What I love about this is that it is bursting with flavor in every bite. Also, the wrapper is thick and chewy, unlike the typical dimsum wrappers. These dumplings are dipped in their special sauce, adding to the explosion of flavors.

We also got the Beef Noodle soup. The soup is really flavorful and the noodles are thick and chewy, just like the dumpling wrapper. It also contains generous slices of beef.

Finally, the reason why we went here, the Xiao Long Pao. And yes, we finally got to eat it while it's hot. Eating Xiao Long Pao is already an experience itself because the flavorful soup filling literally bursts inside your mouth!

Xiao Long Pao is best eaten while hot because the soup turns gelatinous as it gets cold, just like what happened in our previous post.
