The Experience
Kirsten and I went to Warung Indo to have our first shot of Indonesian food. We were right away greeted by its bright colored interiors and accommodating staff.

The menu had a lot of appetizing allergen rich items on it (chicken, shrimp, seafood, and more seafood). I was not in for some allergic adventure that time so we just got some safe ones: Gado Gado Salad and Beef Rendang.

The Gado Gado Salad reminded us of lumpiang ubod minus the wrapper. It has that unique Indonesian spice though and other seemingly foreign ingredients. It goes well with the rice crackers (i.e. "kropeck") and the hard boiled egg that came with it. Serving size was enormous that i had to take about half of it home.
The Beef Rendang did not disappoint as well. I love the mild spice that blends well with the creamy sauce. It has this curry-con-coconut feel that is common to a lot of Asian dishes. Amazingly, Kirsten finds the taste tolerable (she hates coconut milk based dishes).

Like Filipino dishes, Indonesian delicacies seem to go well with rice (even the salad). We indeed have a lot more things in common beyond loving noon time shows (yes, they have Eat Bulaga in Indonesia). Next time, we'll try more of their dishes when I'm out of my allergen alert mode.
