The Experience
Looking for cheap Japanese food in an accessible location? Search no more!

We found Komoro Soba while we were looking for an affordable meal at SM Megamall before going to the Toy Kingdom Warehouse Sale last Friday. We were surprised to see fast food prices in their menu!

As my allergen level felt high that day, so opted for some allergen free items. We ordered the Kaki Age Soba set that came with a mini Katsu Don. It was wheat noodles topped with vegetable tempura. It was served in a bamboo plate like in authentic Japanese places.

The wheat noodles tasted great! It was our first time to see something like it. We had to come up with our own blend of sauce though. It was like a Japanese version of Hong Kong style noodles. We mixed tempura sauce, wasabi, green onions, and tonkatsu sauce to get our desired taste.

The Katsu Don was the typical breaded pork with egg and sauce that you see in Japanese restaurants. I love the sweet white onions!

We also ordered a Katsu Bento which comes complete with veggies, macaroni salad (hmmm... an odd addition to a bento?), miso soup (allergy alert: miso is made of fish and/or chicken oil), rice and orange slices.

The tonkatsu was great with the authentic-tasting sauce. The uncooked veggies complemented the strong taste of the pork, and so did the oddly-placed macaroni salad. The rice wasn't really authentic Japanese rice, though it was way better than average fast food rice.

According to Kirsten, the miso soup tasted good and had some tofu pieces in it which adds to a more "authentic" feel. I was not able to get a sip of the miso soup as I was not really up for some itch that day.

Finally, we topped our filling dinner with the orange slices and a big smile!
