The Experience

Next to the fine milky white powder-like sand and the tons of fun activities to choose from, what we love so much in Boracay are their cool sweets.

Though cool sweets are best enjoyed on bright daylight, we enjoyed a couple of treats during the night. We first tried Don Vito Gelato, an Italian gelato shop at the white beach between Stations 2 and 3.

Their gelato is priced much cheaper than most shops in Metro Manila at PhP 100 for two scoops (gelato scoops in Manila are priced twice as much). The quality is at par with more well-known brands though. We go the a scoop of hazelnut (which tasted like Nutella/Ferrero) and mint (talk about cool on cool). Both flavors did not disappoint.
While indulging on the gelato, we walked through the white beach until we reached the Station 1 area. There we found the legendary Jonah's Fruit Shake. We got their best seller mango-melon shake for PhP 110. It was a bit pricey but the fruits they used were fresh and the milk was creamy (Alpine full cream milk).

Jonah's place is a bit hard to find. We almost went for 'Jonie's Fruit Shake' which was just a few stores away. It was a complete copy: from the serving style (plastic bottle with a punched top for the straw), to the colorful logo, and even a similar landmark (a mexican restaurant beside). We have no idea which one is a copycat as net search results are conflicting. Anyway, we enjoyed Jonah's.
To top off our Boracay cool sweet experience, we went for Halowich: home of the family-sized halo-halo. As much as I wanted to get hold of their enormous treat, we are just a couple with a light appetite (ehem.... ehem...) so we tried some of their solo treats: mango sundae and green tea halo-halo.

Unlike your usual halo-halo, their uniquely-flavored varieties are less on milk (a bit friendly to lactose intolerant people... well depending how intolerant are you) and more on fruits. They use fresh fruits and NOT the ones coming the big Today's fruit cocktail can. Their sundae also had a generous amount of ripe mangoes, though we don't really find it special.

Though it took us some time to get a seat at Halowich, the unique halo-halo experience made our day. I'm definitely going back for their giant halo-halo though! Who's coming with us?

After experiencing the best cool sweets the island has to offer, I still find this the greatest sweet:
