The Experience
Though going to Boracay is NOT free, experiencing the sand is. After all, Boracay is best known for their milky white powder-like sand (it feels like polvoron all over).
After checking in at La Oviedo and having a great (and late) Mongolian buffet lunch, we headed off to the beach nearest to us: Bulabog Beach. Though less known and less developed compared to White Beach, it has a unique beauty of its own. You even see a Santorini-like view from this beach.
Bulabog is less refined compared to White Beach: sand is coarser, seaweeds on the shore, and dogs running around. The good side of this is that it feels more natural and it is a lot more quiet here. Also, this beach is known for watersports like kiteboarding and para-sailing (which we haven't had enough guts to try).
After the quick stroll at Bulabog, we went to see the White Beach. We passed through D'Mall: Boracay's largest (and only) mall.
We started at Station 2 and went as far as Station 3 to ride a Paraw sailboat in time for sunset (pics coming on our next post!). Along the way, we had fun taking pictures on the powdery sand.
We also had some of the beautiful hotel facades as background. There were fantastic architecture along the beach.
Boracay Regency even have this long staircase with waterfalls (reminds me of Peninsula Manila... I miss Ayala).
During the night, this sand art amazed us. We were so amazed by the idea of placing a candle inside that we took a picture.
and behold... a kid appears asking for 'donation'. You are not obliged to give an amount actually, but better keep some loose change in your pocket.
We also got to enjoy a brief fireworks display in one of the luxurious hotels near Station 1. What a great way to celebrate a memorable event.
This ended our day with a bang. After a good night sleep, we headed back to Bulabog beach to enjoy the sunrise... such a great way to start the day.
We then headed back to the white beach to walk barefoot in the sand and take more pictures.
We reached a famous Boracay landmark: the grotto at a rock off White Beach. We then burned off some of the buffet calories by taking some jump shots.
Indeed, the best things in life (and in Boracay) are free.
