The Experience
We have been in UP for years and we have waited that long to try Friuli Trattoria. Finally, we gave it a shot yesterday.

Friuli is a casual dining restaurant serving affordable Italian food. It is located in Maginhawa St., Teacher's Village - the budget meal capital of Diliman!

Being in an area near UP Diliman where a lot of dorms are located, the primary market of the restaurants in Maginhawa are college students. Friuli is one of the great finds here that would not burn a hole in your pocket!

We decided to order their second best seller pasta: the Puttanesca! We wanted to try their best seller (the Tuna and Cheese pasta), but I was not up for some allergens yesterday.

Their Puttanesca tasted good. It was served in angel hair pasta and a generous amount of olives. Serving size is for 2-3 persons. It is comparable to Italiani's, at half the price!

We also got a pizza with two flavors: Cheese Pizza and Bacon & Cucumber. The cheesy half made of two layers of cheese tasted good, though it had a hint of the cucumber that was on the other side.

The Bacon and Cucumber half is something you do not see everyday. It may seem like an unlikely combination, but it is actually the best part of our Friuli experience! It is one of the best pizzas we've had. Definitely going back for this!

We also got a pitcher of iced tea (Nestea?) for PhP 60. It is more expensive than your litro pack, but a lot cheaper than what other restaurants offer. It is usually good for 4-5 average persons, or 2-3 persons wanting to quench the Maginhawa afternoon heat.

So why am I on a watch on my allergen level these days? I'm saving it up for this:
Watch out for our post on our first Ultimate Taste Test experience.

How to get there

  1. From MRT Quezon Ave. Station (Centris Station), ride a jeep going to UP Diliman.
  2. Get off at Philcoa.
Note: You can also get off at UP Checkpoint then ride a UP Ikot jeep, and get off at the community park near Krus na Ligas. You can walk to Friuli from there. This is not advisable though if you're going there for lunch (too much sunlight!).
  3. Ride a tricycle going to Maginhawa St. The terminal is at the corner of Commonwealth Ave. and Masaya St. Tell the driver to drop you off at Friuli.
